Former Kyabram dairy farmers Jeff and Barbara Wiltshire have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
They first met in a chance meeting at a Waaia church function and married in 1955, two years after meeting, in Adelaide.
Now with five children, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Mr and Mrs Wiltshire said forgiveness and understanding — and keeping busy — were the keys to a successful union.
The Wiltshires became a strong part of the Kyabram community, owning and operating a dairy farm into the 1970s as well as a highly-successful Clydesdale stud for 40 years.
‘‘We have had lots of happy times together,’’ Mrs Wiltshire said.
Not the least, she said, because moving to Kyabram and making their home close to the town had been the ‘‘best decision’’ they could have made.
‘‘There are so many nice people around and it’s a great little place for older people like us,’’ Mr Wiltshire said.
After living in Kyabram for 10 years after retiring from the farm, Mr and Mrs Wiltshire moved to Tongala’s Koraleigh Nursing Home.
