Winter fair 2017 - Scott Sieben with Brindabella Razor Midge.

Winter fair 2017 - Judges Gerald Coughlin and Nicola Paulger.

Winter fair 2017 - Katelyn, April and Emmalea Wishart.

The organising committee of the National Herd Development Winter Fair is all smiles after another successful event was held in Bendigo last week.

More than 175 cattle paraded through the ring across the classes, and senior judge Gerald Coughlin and associate Nicola Paulger were more than impressed by the standard on offer.

Organiser Clare Modra said exhibitors travelled from NSW, South Australia and across Victoria to attend the fair.

‘‘Once again the support from exhibitors was outstanding along with the quality of cattle, it just gets better and better,’’ Mrs Modra said.

‘‘There was a huge amount of heifers in the dry section of the junior classes and in one section we had 43 entries, which is great for the kids and great for the future of the industry.’’

The Dee family from Macorna took out top honours in the senior section with Hullabaloo Bolton Sundae.

The six-year-old was crowned Supreme Senior Udder and Supreme Senior Champion.

Mark Dee said it was an emotional win for the family.

‘‘Mum passed away at the start of the year and she would have been so pleased for us,’’ Mr Dee said.

‘‘We came to the show expecting nothing — she has been milking since November but she came up as good as she ever has. She (Hullabaloo Bolton Sundae) is an absolute dream to work with, she is an eating and drinking machine and we were just glad she has finally delivered, like we knew she could.’’

Mr Coughlin said Sundae was terrific from her muzzle through to her mammary system.

‘‘She is just a beautiful cow,’’ he said.
