Tallygaroopna’s Akers Flock has taken home the G J Sheppard Memorial Award for Supreme Champion in Show at the 2017 Royal Melbourne Poultry Show for its black and white duck.

Royal Agriculture Society of Victoria chief executive officer Mark O’Sullivan congratulated the family on the win.

‘‘The Akers family has seen much success exhibiting at the Royal Melbourne Poultry Show over the years, but this is the first time they have taken out the Supreme Champion in Show title,’’ he said.

More than 1500 birds, 118 exhibitors and 100 breeds of poultry competed across the two-day event, with the Akers family — which has been breeding poultry and waterfowl for three generations — also winning Best Rooster in Show.

The award was introduced in celebration of the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Rooster.
