A complete clearance of all lots was achieved in a major dairy sale at the Shepparton Regional Saleyards last Thursday.
The 220 head grossed $348750 to average $1585 per head, in the sale run by Flanagan Marketing Services and Mulcahy Nelson.
Freshly calved cows were in strong demand, selling to $2050 for a 40litre four-year-old on account of Brett and Kim Mitchell from Bamawm.
This outstanding cow was purchased by regular buyer Allan and Ngaire Herbert of Yarroweyah.
The Herberts secured six head for an average of $1841.
The main vendor for fresh calved cows was Oakdale Dairies from Longwarry.
They sold 99 head comprising 55 Holsteins and 44 FJX and Jerseys for an average of $1469 with the best Holstein cows fetching $2000 on several occasions.
Mark and Kristie Mitchell offered 20 AI-bred Holstein heifers that sold to $2000, averaging $1875 per head.
Rod and Sue McCracken bought 14 quality springing Holstein heifers averaging $1789 each, including three sired by popular AI sire Canbee for $2000 each.
Peter and Dianne Mangan dispersed their spring calving herd with very satisfactory results averaging $1670 per head.
Main buyers included Brookhall Pty Ltd, from Tatura, which took home 13 freshly calved young cows to average $1730 each with a top price of $1900 for a pair of 32litre three-year-olds from the Oakdale consignment.
C and R Cooknell from Congupna were solid buyers throughout, with their main requirement being spring calving cows .
They paid $1900 per head for a wonderful draft of 10 August calvers from the Mangan Consignment. This line had the added bonus of being in calf to top AI sires Medallion and Christmas.
Cattle were sold to all local areas including Cobram, Cohuna, Kyabram, Katunga, Undera and Benalla.
