To help boost the number of people working in the food and fibre sectors, Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE offers a Gateway Program designed to help students gain practical and technical skills and open doors into the industry.

Developed in conjunction with Edge Learning Group, the innovative new program has been designed to build confidence, knowledge and give students a comprehensive introduction into the food and fibre industry.

‘‘As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in relation to agricultural machinery operation, farm fencing, plants and soils, etc,’’ GOTAFE National Centre for Dairy Education commercial manager Luke Prime said.

‘‘They will discover safe work practices, in an applied, hands-on simulated work environment,’’ he said.

‘‘The program provides students the opportunity to visit farms and businesses, giving students an insight into the vast range of job opportunities in our region.

‘‘Students will also have the opportunity to undertake supported practical placement as a part of the program.

‘‘Career prospects post this program may include working on-farm in production roles or in the services sector, which includes rural merchandising and agribusiness.’’

The Gateway Program is aligned to units from Certificate III in Agriculture.
