Budding photographers are encouraged to start snapping around local farms and enter their best photographs in a competition run by water campaigner Speak Up.

The submitted photos can be anything agriculture-related, whether it’s crops, animals, people on farms, farm-related activities, wildlife on farms or on-farm environmentally-friendly habitats, and photographs submitted will be used for a range of projects including a calendar, Facebook posts and promotional videos.

Spokesperson Linda Fawns said a key aim of the competition was to highlight the environmental significance of the region’s farmlands, as well as the importance of agriculture to our communities and way of life.

‘‘The saying tells us ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’, so we want to capture the essence of our region in this way to tell our story.

‘‘There is insufficient understanding in some quarters of the contribution our farmlands make to environmental wellbeing, as well as the social importance of agriculture to rural communities and, as such, the nation as a whole.

‘‘We would like these and more to be reflected in competition entries,’’ Mrs Fawns said.

The person who takes the top photo will win four Medallion Club tickets at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium during the 2018 AFL season.
