Murray Bennett of Landmark in Wangaratta is the 2017 ALPA Victorian Young Auctioneers Competition winner.

Joe Allen, from Elders in Euroa, was runner-up, and both men will represent Victoria at the 2018 ALPA National Young Auctioneers Competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

On September 11, 10 young auctioneers from across the state travelled to the Victorian Livestock Exchange in Pakenham to compete in the two-day event.

Competitors received important industry information and improved their auctioneering skills through voice conservation and care from speech pathologists, and coaching and training from experienced auctioneers.

‘‘Training young stock agents is an important part of what we do at ALPA,’’ ALPA chief executive officer Andy Madigan said.

‘‘We are investing in the future of our profession and industry.’’

The competitors took their place at the rostrum and sold commercial cattle that had been sourced locally by the Pakenham Stock Agents Association.

They were judged on diction, values, voice and manner.
