A large Pinzgauer Angus cross steer greeted buyers at Shepparton Regional Saleyards last Tuesday, and while it did not sell for an incredibly high price, its weight and height stole the show.

The four-year-old, owned by Stanhope’s Ian Butler, weighed in at 990kg and sold for $1782 ($1.80/kg). It was purchased by Ascot Meats in Wodonga.

Mulcahy Nelson agent James Pyke said he was amazed at the size of the steer.

‘‘At shoulder height, it was 6foot (1.83m). It’s one of the tallest I’ve seen,’’ Mr Pyke said.
