The Rodwells auction team brings out one of the top selling rams at the Yentrac sale.

Buyers and visitors to the Ardmona Yentrac stud sale last Wednesday were able to see a national champion on show.

Among the exhibits which Rob and Lynne McCartney took to the Australian Dorset Championships at Bendigo, was a promising young ewe that came from their breeding program.

She first won a joint ribbon for a pairs entry and then went on to win the champion ewe. Ultimately she beat the rams to take out Supreme Poll Dorset Exhibit for the show.

Mr McCartney plans to breed from her and may use embryo transfer next year.

The stud’s Poll Dorsets and Southdowns sold to steady demand at last week’s sale.

The Poll Dorsets averaged $1233 and Southdowns $933 at the McCartneys’ annual sale.

Rodwells agent Shelby Howard said the rams sold to Echuca, Yea, Holbrook, Ballarat and northern Victorian customers.

Next year the stud is proposing to expand its offering to include White Suffolk rams.

â– Millswyn White Suffolk Stud has its annual auction at Katandra on Wednesday, October 4. Pepperton at Elmore will offer 160 lots of Poll Dorsets, White Suffolk rams and ewes on Monday, October 16.
