Young people keen to get involved with sport or after-school activities are invited to a ‘‘Come and Try’’ Day at Benalla’s Churchill Reserve on Sunday, March 25, between 10am and 1pm.
The event is open to young people aged five to 19 and will feature a free sausage sizzle.
Sports and community groups including archery, Astronomy Benalla, Auskick, badminton, baseball, basketball, Benalla Leo Club, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, tennis, little athletics, Melodrama, netball, Scouts and Cubs, soccer, swimming club, TDA and YMCA will feature at the event coordinated by Tomorrow Today Foundation (TTF) in partnership with Valley Sport.
‘‘This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to sample some of the fun and enjoyable activities that Benalla has to offer,’’ foundation executive officer Pat Claridge said.
‘‘Along with the better known sports, there will be information about dance, drama and other local clubs.’’
Research shows that being connected to sport and other activities in their community helps young people stay engaged with school and learning.
Other benefits include the opportunity to make friends, learn new skills and get fit at the same time.
Ms Claridge said there would be interactive activities where possible and the chance to talk to club representatives about memberships and programs.
Valley Sport will also provide information on volunteering opportunities for parents and family members.
