Benalla Giants Under-16

Benalla Giants recorded their fourth win of the season with a 92-point victory against Wangaratta College at HP Barr Reserve on Sunday.

College got on the board early but the Giants fought back and by quarter-time led by 13 points. Tyson Ryan was looking ominous for the Giants, kicking two goals.

Multiple goals to Ryan and Deakyn Kohler in the second quarter, and some outstanding defensive efforts from Henry Sadaya, saw the Giants well on top by half-time.

In the second half, Giants dominated the game kicking nine goals to three to run out comfortable winners.

David Button, Rory Wapling, Luke Dunne and defender Josh Milner were in good touch for the Giants, while Tyson Ryan finished the game with seven goals.

The final scoreline was Giants 19-14-128 defeated College 5-6-36.

Benalla Bulldogs Under-16

Under-16 Bulldogs put in a strong team performance against the highly rated Mansfield team.

Missing a number of kickable goals, the Doggies trailed at quarter-time by 19 points.

After quarter-time the Bulldogs matched it with their opponents, kicking six goals to seven in a highly competitive display.

Bode Stevens, Chelton Orchard, Zac Calvert, Oscar Major, Will Hoskins and Jack Robinson were the best players in a solid team performance.

It was great to welcome Kyle Berger back to the kennel for his first game of the year, while German exchange student Jean Bohmsach, who is returning home, was farewelled.

In the under-14 matches, the young Giants took on College in what was a winnable game for both sides.

The first quarter was an even affair with both sides kicking two goals and Matt Johnston playing in the ruck and winning most of the hit-outs.

College kicked four goals to one in the second quarter, before two late goals saw the margin reduced to eight points.

Up forward Tyler McGregor and Jasper Defazio were looking dangerous while Ed Miechel was dominating through the middle.

Having trailed by 10 points at three-quarter-time, the Giants finished strongly and kicked four goals to run out 13-point winners.

Jasper Defazio kicked five goals, while Miechel, McGregor, Kane Clark, Nick Trethowan and Jacob Adams were the best.

The final score: Giants 11-7-73 defeated College 9-6-60.

●Benalla Bulldogs under-14s took on the strong Mansfield team at Benalla Showgrounds.

After an even first quarter, the Eagles ran away with the match.

Despite being outgunned, the young Doggies fought hard for the four quarters and will learn a lot from the match.

The final score: Mansfield 17-10-112 defeated Bulldogs 4-4-28.

In under-12 matches, Wangaratta College was too strong for Benalla Red, with the final margin 31 points.

Leading by 31 points at half-time, Benalla Red matched it with the home side during the remaining two quarters, each kicking two goals.

Final score: Wangaratta College 7.3 (45) defeated Benalla Red 2.2 (14).

●At the showgrounds, Benalla Green kicked five goals to one after half-time to defeat Benalla White.

Joe Berry kicked four goals in a dominant display.
