Exciting arrival

By Georgia Smith

Benalla is now the home of what could be described as racing royalty, with the arrival of Winx’s half-brother to town.

The stallion, named Boulder City, will be in Benalla for the next four years thanks to local trainer Russell Osborne.

Osborne said they were lucky to have been chosen to host Boulder City here in Benalla.

‘‘We’re very lucky to have the horse here,’’ Osborne said.

‘‘We specialise in breeding to race and because he’s unraced they feel that he’s more a breeding to race proposition, so they wanted to stand him in Victoria where we’ve got a bigger breeding cliental.

‘‘They picked us out to send him down and we’re lucky enough to have him for the next four years.’’

Winx was recently named the World’s Best Racehorse, after having won 18 Group 1 races and 25 straight wins.

Boulder City is also the son of Snitzel who won his first General Sires’ Premiership in 2017.

Coming from such an impressive and successful family, Osborne has high hopes for Boulder City.

‘‘We’re hoping to get as many numbers on the ground as we can in the first two years to build him up for life as a stallion,’’ he said.

‘‘It’s the blue blood, for that price at the lesser breeder that’s really so exciting.’’

Boulder City has a full service fee of $5500.

‘‘To be able to offer it at that price, normally they’d be well over $10000, so it’s very exciting,’’ he said.

Osborne usually trains his own bred horses, but is looking forward to having his new arrival around the Riverbank Farm.
