A strange substance which looks more like coral from the Great Barrier Reef has been found in Jerilderie.
Mick Baldwin was chopping wood with fellow local Terry ‘Cocky’ McGee at Colombo Creek a few weeks ago when he stumbled across the mysterious object on a tree.
‘‘Cocky asked me about ‘that white stuff’ sticking out of the red gum? At first I thought it was the wing from a cockatoo but when I got closer I realised it was growing out of the tree,’’ Mr Baldwin said.
‘‘It was sitting about four foot off the ground and growing out of a knot. I’ve never seen anything like it before and I have no idea what it is.’’
Despite showing it to numerous people, Mr Baldwin is still stumped by the object.
‘‘Most people say it’s a piece of coral, but somebody thought it could be a fungus.
‘‘Let’s just hope it isn’t something from a horror film,’’ Mr Baldwin said with a laugh.
Anyone who could shed some light on the subject is asked to call Mr Baldwin on 5886 1342.
