July 4, 1979: ‘Shirl’ meets Cobber

By Shepparton News

The going was a bit cramped for driver "Shirley" Strachan - and so it should have been - Shirley was in a Careful Cobber designed for primary school children only and not walloping big kids.

Careful Cobber and Shirley (of Skyhooks fame) were accompanied by Ol' Possum, who surveyed the goings-on quite calmly, perhaps because he was being cuddled by pretty Kylie Garrett from Gowrie St Primary School.

Other children from Gowrie St joined in the fun with Shirley at the Goulburn Valley Driver Training Complex yesterday afternoon.

They were being filmed for a segment to be shown on Shirley's new children's show, "Shirl's Neighborhood."

Shirley heard about the Careful Cobbers and was impressed with the work they were doing in education children as future drivers so impressed that he made a trip to Shepparton.

The Careful Cobbers were designed by the staff at the Driver Training Complex and are made of fibreglass.
