Pony club pioneer dies

Pony Clubs Victoria has lost a stalwart with the passing of Frances Corry, on December 28.

Miss Corry learned to ride at a young age on her father’s draught horse but polished her skills with some formal training at a Sydney riding school.
It was during a standard work day herd testing at a dairy farm in Nathalia, Miss Corry was encouraged by a colleague to join Northern Zone Pony Club.

Frances Corry retired from her role as secretary and treasurer of Northern Zone Pony Club at the age of 82..

She spent 27 years as state secretary of the Pony Club Association and she was secretary/treasurer of the Northern Zone  for more than 45 years.

In between her roles at Northern Zone Pony Club and the Pony Club Association of Victoria,  Miss Corry was also an instructor at Nathalia Pony Club for more than 40 years and a horse steward and showjumping time keeper for Dandenong Agricultural and Pastoral Society.

Miss Corry died at Echuca following a long illness.

Her funeral will be held at Nathalia Uniting Church on Friday, January 5 at 11am.
