Three men who attempted to steal thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes from two service stations in Euroa have faced court.
About 2.45am on Friday, the trio was arrested inside the Caltex Service Station after allegedly assaulting police in an attempt to escape.
A Doreen man, 28, a Preston man, 25, and a Heidelberg West man, 25, all faced out of session hearings about the incident.
‘‘All three have been remanded in custody in regards to a series of burglaries, property offences and for assaulting police,’’ Victoria Police eastern regional crime squad Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Scott Dwyer said.
Acting Sen Sgt Dwyer said a stolen car the men were driving also linked them to an alleged burglary at the BP service station in Euroa — hours before their arrest.
The Heidelberg West man faced Shepparton Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning, on charges relating to the Euroa burglaries.
The two other men will face charges relating to burglaries across Victoria, including incidents in Nagambie, Kinglake, Yarra Glenn, Woori Yallock and Yea.
Acting Sen Sgt Dwyer said the burglaries occurred since the start of last month.
The Doreen man is set to face Ringwood Magistrates’ Court tomorrow and the Preston man will face Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court this month.
