Donors dig deep for silos fund

By David Rak

MORE than $20,000 has been raised by the Rochester and district community to fund the painting of the silos.

The project has been 72 per cent funded so far by 10 donors, with plenty of time left to reach the $30,000 target.

Moroney’s Plumbing owners Geoff and Helen Moroney, said they got behind the project because it was a great initiative to attract more people to Rochester and district.

“We’re a small business and extra people in town will help us and plenty of other businesses like us,” she said.

“I’m pleased to see people are getting behind the idea because more people visiting Rochester benefits everyone.

“We’re really excited to see how it turns out.”

Major’s IGA owner Ben Major said it was great to see the project was already creating a buzz in town.

“We want Rochester to be an inviting place to stop. An added attraction like the silos is perfect for that,” he said.

“We have plenty of traffic coming through town and this will give them a reason to stop and check out our town.

“I’m really excited to see what it looks like and want to say thanks to everyone involved in making this happen.”
