Siblings Rita Caleo and Michael Chye were killed in separate incidents in 1990.

Months before a doctor was shot dead in his Sydney garage his brother-in-law said "a man like this will not have long to live", a NSW jury has been told.

Mark Caleo has pleaded not guilty to soliciting the murder of his wife, Rita Caleo, in August 1990 and her brother, Michael Chye, in October 1990.

Giving evidence at his NSW Supreme Court trial on Friday, Ping Kon Yap said Caleo made the comment in August 1989, when the accused drove him to look at Dr Chye's house one evening.
