Have a safe and happy Easter

By Shepparton News

The News would like to wish the community a safe and happy Easter ahead of the long weekend, which starts today.

Easter is a special time to enjoy with family and friends with many getting to enjoy a much-needed rest from work.

While the holiday itself is celebrated by Christians, we also hope all those in the community who do not celebrate Easter enjoy themselves this weekend.

The Goulburn Valley is set to become increasingly busy with people and traffic converging on the area and the roads can consequently become increasingly busy and dangerous during this time.

The News would like to remind readers to be vigilant when it comes to their behaviour while driving this weekend.

Yesterday’s News unpacked the scary road death statistics coming out of the Goulburn Valley this year and readers should be reminded, once again, to drive safely.

Police will also be out in force this weekend to ensure drivers are doing the right thing.

Today is also the annual Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal and we encourage the community to dig deep, as it always does, and support this year’s fundraiser.

There will be several local firefighters and volunteers out in force today rattling tins so be sure to donate as much as you can manage in order to help out the Royal Children’s Hospital.

This week The News has featured several stories which highlight the good work of both the appeal and the hospital and the many tireless volunteers who have helped to raise copious amounts of money during the years.

This year Shepparton is likely to reach a total of $1 million raised since collecting started and the community should be truly proud of this incredible effort.

So make sure you have some notes or coins on hand when you see a fire truck with some friendly tin rattlers or receive a knock on the door today.

There is certainly be lots to do this weekend, so have a safe and happy Easter — there is sure to be a friendly atmosphere infecting the air in Greater Shepparton.
