Battery drive for GV Health’s children ward

By Ilias Bakalla

Rushworth’s Paul Archer is conducting a battery drive to raise funds for Goulburn Valley Health’s children's ward this Christmas.

He is aiming to raise $25 000 to $35 000 by collecting pallets of old batteries from businesses in the area and selling them to Future Recycling Metals.

“It takes a community to help a community,” Mr Archer said.

“We can’t always rely on the government for support, they’ve got a lot of things to deal with.”

All of the money raised from selling the batteries goes to the hospital, with any expenses coming out of Mr Archer’s pocket.

“Twenty per cent of the money goes on toys to entertain the children while 80 per cent goes on equipment for treatments,” Mr Archer said.

He regularly donates to the hospital with one cheque at Christmas time and one at the end of July.

If you have batteries you’d like to donate, drop them off at Natrad Shepparton at 20 Campbell St or phone Paul Archer on 0457 000 423 or 5821 8500.
